This volume opens with the Nephilim, tracing the giant tradition from Genesis and the Book of Enoch through the mound builder skeleton reports, the Smithsonian’s disputed role, and cases like Lovelock Cave and the Cardiff Giant. From there it turns to the master builders, traveling cathedral architects like Peter Parler whose single careers somehow span structures continents apart, and the guild secrets some researchers read as inherited knowledge from an older building tradition. The underground chapters run the full circuit: Cappadocia’s two hundred stone cities, the freight tunnels beneath Chicago, and the catacombs and bone churches of Paris, Odessa, and Palermo. Separate chapters take on the Grand Canyon’s disputed 1909 Egyptian city claim, Denver International Airport’s murals, capstone, and tunnel rumors weighed against what is actually documented, and the competing catastrophe theories, fire, flood, mud, and plasma, offered up as explanations for why the old world seems to end so abruptly in the photographic record. The camera itself gets its own chapters: erased figures, retouched daguerreotypes, and the empty streets that keep showing up in construction-era photography. The airship era, the asylum system built around Dorothea Dix and the Kirkbride plan, Persepolis, and San Diego’s Balboa Park each get the same full treatment before the book closes by naming its critics directly, the historians, fact-checkers, and skeptic researchers who have pushed back point by point, because a complete encyclopedia does not get to leave out the strongest arguments against itself.

Every chapter in this collection stands completely on its own, written in the flat, careful register of an actual reference work rather than a tour guide’s patter. Claims are attributed to the community that makes them, not dressed up as settled fact, and where a documented mainstream explanation exists, it gets a fair, neutral hearing before the entry ends.
