From an early fascination with radio’s power to connect and inform, my journey into the world of broadcasting began with an internship at KAZI FM 88.7, Austin Community Radio, Inc. There, I embraced the unpaid opportunity to read the news during Friday rush hour traffic, gaining invaluable insights into the industry’s workings and setting the stage for my future in radio.

Driven by a desire to bridge the gap between aspiring broadcasters and industry professionals, I founded the organization “CSB – College Students in Broadcasting” at The University of Texas. This initiative aimed to bring industry experts in radio, TV, and film to speak with students about career opportunities, providing guidance and connections that were sorely lacking for many graduates.

Post-college, my career path led me to RFC Media, a pioneering creative content company and the foremost producer of branded digital music channels. At RFC, I immersed myself in a world where streaming radio transcended mere music and messaging. My role involved crafting presentations, logos, and ads for prospective clients, offering a unique blend of creativity within the framework provided by management. RFC Media, established in 2008 by a team of radio industry luminaries, revolutionized digital radio by creating live-hosted, private-label programming that fostered community and deepened brand relationships. Their innovative approach allowed for the seamless extension of a brand’s interaction with its audience, moving beyond traditional social media engagement.

One of the standout projects I contributed to was NASA’s Third Rock Radio, a station designed to captivate a younger audience, sparking interest in science and potentially leading them to consider careers at NASA. The station’s rock format resonated with the tastes of the targeted younger generation, illustrating the power of curated, thematic radio content to engage and inspire.

Throughout my radio career, from the early days at KAZI FM to the creative challenges at RFC Media, my journey has been one of passion, innovation, and a continuous drive to push the boundaries of what radio can achieve. Each project and role has been a step toward realizing the full potential of broadcasting as a means of connection, education, and entertainment.
